The Plague Syndicate: Biblical Vengeance Gets a Comic Book Makeover
The unauthorized anti-hero team Pharaoh never saw coming.
Shalom from Israel,
Many, many years ago, I dreamed up something that's been living rent-free in my imagination: a team of plague-powered anti-heroes who could enact divine vengeance with style. I sketched out characters, powers, weaknesses - the whole megillah. But like so many creative projects, this one gathered dust in the dark corners of my mind, right next to my unfinished novel, my book about Jews and herring, and those kumquats that have been fermenting for close to seven years in the cabinet above the refrigerator.
Until now.
Meet The Plague Syndicate
With a little help from modern technology, I've finally brought these characters to life in all their Golden Age comic glory. From BloodReign, the crimson-skinned elemental who turns water sources into boiling blood to DuskVeil, the darkness-wielding mistress, each character captures the essence of their biblical inspiration with a comic book aesthetic.
I have a soft spot for LiceBreed, a swarm being made of millions of living lice operating a human-shaped shell, whose catchphrase, "One scratch... and you're mine". Or maybe The FrogMother, the amphibian overlord who commands, "a cacophonic choir of frog-song that drives mortals mad."
Not Just Another Haggadah Insert
Every year someone brings a new activity to "enliven" the Seder, something like the Ten Plagues finger puppet set or a 3D printed cup for Elijah the Prophet. But this year, you can be the cool relative who brings trading cards featuring a boil-covered sorceress who, "inflicts boils and festering wounds with a glance" and whose catchphrase is, "Pain is my love language." Believe it!
Each card in this collection features:
Golden Age comic book art
A bold character portrait on the front
Detailed bio and powers on the back
Hebrew names and biblical references
Whether you're looking to keep the kids engaged, spark a theological debate about divine wrath, or just want to see your traditional uncle's face when you place "Blisterex" next to his matzah gefilte fish—the Plague Syndicate delivers.
Free to Share, With Love
I'm making this collection available for free download. Print them at home, bring them to your Seder, share them with friends. You can download the complete set at my website. And please share these with anyone who could use a little plague-themed entertainment this Passover.
Wishing you and yours a Chag Pesach Sameach that's free from actual plagues.
